Carnal Zen

~Finding the balance between earthly delight and spiritual enlightenment~

About

Carnal Zen is my forum to explore all the ideas, contradictions, religions and credit card bills that pepper my life.

“He” my 98 year great grandmother would say “”just says not now.” punctuating it with a long pull on her cigarrette.  Gran was a wise ole bird who I adored but nevertheless would frustrate me with this answer.  I was not what I wanted to hear when she was alive.  It still isn’t.

Patience is a virtue.  It’s not one of mine.   I’d decided to let go of my former home, to relieve the burden of landlordship, to free up emotional space and financial baggage so I could be open to whatever opportunities life brings.  God, the universe and the real estate market responded with a big fat NO.

A pattern keeps emerging over the last year & I am constantly being challenged to let go of outcomes and the illusion of certainty.  Life is change.  Happiness comes from our ability to be flexible and forge new pathways when we face obstacles.

Rivers are filled with meandering switchbacks.  Speed and volume change seasonally and although the course may change, the direction of flow never does.  We have to remind ourselves that life is not meant to be a straight line.  There are many routes to happiness but first we must become water.

  1. I love that “… There are many routes to happiness but first we must become water.”

    J. Krishnamurti once said: “You must understand the whole of life, not just one little part of it. That is why you must read, that is why you must look at the skies, that is why you must sing and dance, and write poems, and suffer, and understand, for all that is life.”

I guess your post reminded me of this quote. To me it says that wisdom is our birthright, and that we must engage the full power of the mind, heart, and spirit.

  3. I also love the part of becoming water. So true and a wonderful way to look at situations. I have left something for you on my blog.
