In college, the first day of class always began with a crisp clean notebook scanning the room for familiar faces as classmates find their seats. The syllabus, almost always photocopied on pastel paper, would be reviewed. Questions would be asked and answered. Your journey for the next 16 weeks would be crystal clear.
In life, we are never told what lessons we are supposed to be learning. It’s a guessing game. I am juggling a lot of unknowns right now. There is empty space where set plans and certainties used to live and I have to resist every inclination to set my sails north or south, just for the sake of direction. When you are going top speed through life, you rarely see the glories of living.
So thanks to Wikihow and an oncoming summer cold, this afternoon’s lesson is clear. I will learn to make coffe granita and indulge in the sweet saccharine that I wouldn’t have time to for if life were planned.
